candle care

Follow these best practices for candle care each time you burn your candles for the optimal candle experience.

1. Trim your wicks

Trim your wick to within 1/4 of an inch before every burn. This helps keep the flame in control and minimize excess soot for a cleaner, longer burn. If you don't have a wick trimmer, a pair of scissors will do the trick.

2. Burn Time

Allow enough time for your candle to melt the wax all the way to the edges of the container during each burn cycle. This will help your candle burn evenly without tunneling or wasting wax. Do not burn candles for longer than 4 hours at a time. Excess carbon builds up in the wick over time, and burning longer than 4 hours can cause your candle to burn too hot.

4.  When to Extinguish Your Candle

Stop burning your candle when 1/4" of unmelted wax remains. Burning beyond this point can cause the vessel to become dangerously hot, and may damage the surface beneath your candle.

5. Location

Follow the 2-foot rule. Keep candles at least 2 feet away from clothing, books, curtains or other flammable objects. Avoid exposing the flame to drafts so that it may steadily burn in the center of the candle.

6. Recycling Your Jar

To remove old wax from a jar, place your candle on a baking sheet and set it inside a 200º oven (or toaster oven) for 5-10 minutes. With oven mitts, remove the jar and pour out the melted wax. Wait a few minutes until the jar is cool enough to handle and wipe out the remaining wax with paper towels. Carefully remove the wick tab with a pair of blunt plyers, then clean off any remaining wax residue using rubbing alcohol on a paper towel.

Be careful when introducing heat to glass jars; glass breaks when subjected to sudden changes in temperature. Always heat jars gently and slowly.
